One of the obsessions of the book is how language fails her. Personal accounts of mental illness have always fascinated me. The official mental awareness month, since this book by far have given me the most when it comes to books about mental diseases.
Girl, interrupted was a book written by a woman who experienced this case of affairs and whilst altered slightly in story, the film adaptation is a brilliant story which raises more questions about mental health, than it cares to answer. Now, 25 years and two novels (far afield, 1990; As soon as i heard susanna, the protagonist of “girl, interrupted,” say these words, i knew this movie would understand me.
A person suffering from mental illness will come into contact with a large number of professionals, on an inpatient ward seven or eight members of staff (from both the ward and outside) can decide that person’s future, yet mental illness remains a wholly. I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety since high school, obsessive compulsive disorder since childhood, and utter contempt with a large portion of the world since before i can remember.

Susanna kaysen (winona ryder) is a promiscuous rebel who spends her time depressed and pondering her death. The tone of the film would have to get susanna kaysen's voice right, play proper respect to the topic, and the aesthetics of the era.

I’ve just finished reading ‘girl, interrupted’ by susanna kaysen, and so i thought i would write a review, while it was still fresh in my mind! This book was based on her story in the 1960s when it wasn’t acceptable to tell anyone you had a mental illness, much less write a book about it. Title and why i chose this book:
The first two components work. 5 out of 5 stars. The most interesting thing about girl, interrupted, a film version of susanna kaysen's memoir of her mental breakdown in the 1960s, is the provenance of the title.
During the book tour, readers would line up to tell kaysen how her book had spoken to them. Sections reproduced from hospital medical records; And the perspective of a woman in her forties examining an earlier phase of her life about 25 years later.

It is a small book of only 168 pages telling the story of kaysen’s two year stay in a mental institution between. Girl, interrupted really is a wonderful book; The book describes her time there with uncanny detail and really brings awareness.
The book's clear, crisp, spare prose style is so elegant and masterful that i like to describe it to people as lyrical prose.almost poetic. Girl, interrupted is well written and somewhat insightful (from the point of view of a troubled teenager), but given a choice, i would rather spend my time with ken kesey’s fictional but far more engaging one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. This book was an incredible autobiography by a woman who diagnosed herself with a mental disorder and then enrolled herself in a mental hospital.
I imagine that translating girl, interrupted from a series of personal essays to a full length feature film was a bit complicated. Girl, interrupted is a short book structured from three building blocks: “even if i sometimes use the word abuse to describe certain things that were done to me, in someone else’s mouth the word turns.
